From concrete to carpet

One of the most unique and challenging aspects of the account manager role is the varied environments you will find yourself in day-to-day.

From conducting onsite demonstrations showcasing our innovative products to participating in detailed discussions with business owners about how we can support and improve productivity, efficiency, and sustainability - this role has it all.

"My biggest learning curve was wearing different hats and approaching different people because you’re learning all kinds of personas all the time – speaking to a business owner in office is a lot different than speaking to a foreman on site."

Mike, account manager, Greater Toronto Area

Be prepared to learn, a lot!

"It took me nine months to feel comfortable in the field. For the first six months, I felt so lost and felt like I made a mistake. My manager told me to be patient, and sure enough, after a few months, I felt comfortable and like an expert in my role! I'm happy I stayed but it's definitely a challenging role. I like that I'm always learning and never feel stagnant.

Be prepared to do your own outside learning, along with Hilti's provided training, depending on your trade. Trade competence is critical - knowing what words to use and specific lingo can be telling. Don't be afraid to use your team to help you with this! It's an individual sales role but being a team player is important and your teammates are here to help. After you onboard, you should do a ride along with another account manager in your trade to get familiar with what the customers do and talk with your specialist to see what kind of lingo they use."
